Hello! I am Stacey (Hammond) Hampton. This is my 24TH year of teaching at East Jackson Community Schools and I have been working with children for over 25 years in education. I have one son who is a 5th grader at East Jackson Elementary school this year. Yes, it is true, my blood runs blue!
I first began at East Jackson Community Schools in the fall of 1973 at Bertha Robinson Elementary as a Kindergartner. I attended there through fourth grade. Then, I attended the EJ Middle School for 5th - 8th grade and then the high school for 9th - 12th grade. I graduated in 1986. I attended Jackson Community College and then Central Michigan University. I graduated with my degree, a Bachelor of Science in Education in Dec. 1991. I had a unique opportunity to spend a semester studying in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. I also had the unique opportunity to student teach in Houston, Texas in a 3rd grade bilingual classroom, as well as Dwight Rich Middle School, Lansing, MI, in 6th grade Math and Language arts.
My first teaching position was in Houston, Texas at an inner-city middle school. I taught 7th grade math and science. I loved Houston, but soon realized I was a long way from my family. I returned to Jackson and spent a year subbing and developing an elementary Spanish program at Northwest Elementary School. The following year I was hired by East Jackson to implement that same program and to continue the middle school Spanish program. I taught Spanish for 8 years in both elementary buildings and the middle school. Today, as a General Education teacher of 3rd graders, I have had the opportunity to use my second language abilities communicating with several E.J. families.
Since moving to the elementary full time, I have many fond memories of teaching Kindergarten, a 1/2 Split class and many 2nd graders and now 3rd graders. I have been with East Jackson long enough that I now have had many students that I attended school with their family members, or had the pleasure of teaching their parents. I tell my students, "Once you are one of MY kids, you will ALWAYS be one of my kids."
